Fight Night 144: Review

I’ll start by giving fight nights an overall grade, so to speak. The grade is on the A, B, C, D scale and it is based on : 1) Excitement, 2) Elements of Surprise, and 3) Well Matched.

This fight night was a B – in my opinion. Now: disclaimer that I missed some of the preliminary fights and started watching around Alves/Griffen, but from what I saw, the fights were fast, somewhat unsurprising, and evenly matched. So, with that in mind, I’ll go into some specifics…

The Women’s Fights

  • Decisions all the way!
  • Rookies both lost
  • Exciting at times…but pretty evenly matched (particularly Borella vs. Santos)

Borella vs. Santos

  • This was also a decision match
  • Borella must have gotten her stomach tattoos after her profile picture was taken
  • Seemed like Santos had to adjust her outfit multiple times
  • Not surprising that the rookie lost, but it was pretty close

Souza vs. Frota

  • Wait, Frota missed weight by 7 pounds?! Maybe she should consider moving up a weight class because if your body is telling you that you can’t get to 115 even with major effort, then perhaps that is a signal to protect your health. She was very intimidating though – with all the tattoos, I wouldn’t want to meet her in an ally!
  • Souza seemed to dominate this one, but it did end in decision!

The Headlining Fight: Assuncao vs. Moraes

This was a pretty good fight! Exciting, loss by submission, #4 beats #3!

Most Exciting Fight: Walker vs. Ledet

Wow! This was a Knockout or Technical Knockout. Lights out and then an almost illegal kick while Ledet was down. So, very lucky for Walker that his kick missed, because he could have been disqualified, but…ummm…just wow. What energy and, did he do some breakdancing in the octagon?

That’s all for this time! Check in with me for Feb 9th’s Pay-Per-View, Whittaker vs. Gastelum. The only women fighting this day are Montana De La Rosa vs. Nadia Kassem.
